L.A. TOOL AND DIE.
What do these four things have in common? Correct! They’re all classic films that have been adapted for the stage! (Ours just happens to have more naked men in it.)
In the category of “film into play” theatrical experiences, we couldn’t think of a better addition to this trend than Joe Gage’s amazing L.A. TOOL AND DIE, the third chapter in his “Working Man” trilogy. A sexy road movie featuring plenty of hot men with their clothes off? Sign us up!
Now, there’s a lot of naked, gay theater out there. You can’t swing a cat in this town without hitting some actor taking his clothes off onstage somewhere. But here’s how we’re different - we have a sense of humor about it all! How could a stage adaptation of L.A. TOOL AND DIE be anything BUT a comedy?
In L.A. TOOL AND DIE: LIVE!, you’ll follow Hank, the masculine working man, and Wiley, the shy (but masculine) cowboy as they make their way across the Heartland to Los Angeles. Along the way they meet many hot, handsome and, dare we say it, masculine men whose clothes seem to fly off at the drop of a hat. How do we get away with these shenanigans onstage? Well, that’s why it’s late night…
Dark Blue Theatricals’ (www.darkbluefilms.com) goal is to bring L.A. TOOL AND DIE: LIVE! to a full, late-night production at the legendary Celebration Theatre (www.celebrationtheatre.com) in West Hollywood. We have a great script, a director with an award-winning track record, and 6 amazing, brave actors ready to dive in.
Now, theater in Los Angeles certainly isn’t done for money! We do it for the love of the art. So we’re not asking for a gigantic sum of money to get this off the ground. But we DO want to make sure all of the people involved in LA TOOL AND DIE: LIVE! are rewarded for their hard work.
Just $2500 will cover all the actor expenses for our initial 7-week run. Anything over that amount will be put toward expenses if we extend the run, or toward a Fall 2010 tour. After that, we’ll be opening productions across the country. All from this tiny amount of seed money!
L.A. TOOL AND DIE: LIVE! (A Pre-Condom Comedy) - This ain’t your father’s late night theater!
L.A. TOOL AND DIE: LIVE! opens JULY 30th, at Celebration Theatre in Los Angeles!
